Ever wonder what it's like to venture out in a car with a two year old and a three year old in undies? Well, here's a little glimse of our seven hour roadtrip to Grandmother's house.
We left the house at 9:00 and stopped in town to get donuts. We made it 25 more minutes, stopped for gas, stopped to go tee tee and stopped to get me a diet coke (I knew I would need it at this point). Yes, that is already four stops. Jake has already begun asking "When are we going to get there?", "How much further?", and "What is taking so long?"
We make it about an hour down the road and stop to tee tee. We go about 45 more minutes and stop to tee tee. It is noon by this point and I passed up a McDonald's with a playground because I am trying to make it a little further before we stop and eat (bad idea). We stop in about 20 minutes and eat lunch at a McDonald's without a playgroup (GRRRRR, why did I not stop at the previous one?). Remember that the whole time Jake is repeatedly asking "When are we going to get there?", "How much futher?", "What is taking so long?", "I'm ready to get to Grandmother's house!"
After lunch, by about 1:00 p.m., the boys decide they are tired of riding in the car and want to turn around and go home. I try to explain that it will take longer to get home than to get to Grandmother's, but finally give up explaining.... At McDonald's in our Happy Meals, the boys get some spiderman toys that shoot a web out, so they are shooting them in the car, losing their web and wanting me to get them while driving. That turned into drama because they shot them in the back and I could not get them.
We stop about 45 minutes after lunch to go to the bathroom again. Jake is still complaining about getting there and starts saying that the car is making his neck hurt. Josh chimes in and says his tummy hurts.
We stop less than 30 minutes later and go to the bathroom again. Josh is out soon after this stop, at about 2:30. Jake is still chiming "What's taking so long?" and "I'm ready to get there!" Jake dozes off about 2:45. At 3:15, I have to stop at a light through town and they both wake up with about 30 minutes left to go in the trip. My kids do NOT like to sleep in the car - GRRRRR!!! "I want to go to Grandmother's House!" "What's taking so long?"
FINALLY, about 4:00 we arrive at Grandmother's house - WWWHHHEEEWWWW!! Of course it's cold and has snowed, so they can't go outside and play. They have A LOT of pent up energy, but we made it!!!
Here's a pix of the boys with Grandmother. We enjoyed our short visit with her and then headed on to Lubbock from there (another two hour trip in the car - yipeeeee!!!).
